Putting on your oxygen mask
There are a few things that all of us need in order to survive. One of those key ones is oxygen. We don’t really even need to think about it most of the time, we just breathe in and our bodies do everything else for us. Isn’t that amazing when you think about it?
Luckily for most of us we don’t usually need to think about getting oxygen, but in certain instances we do. The time I’m reminded of it is when I’m on a plane listening to the safety briefing. And I had the fortunate opportunity to do so twice last week, on my short work trip to Majorca. I even managed to get voice recordings of both of them - one from Jet2 and one from Ryanair.
If you’ve ever flown any anywhere, you’re likely have heard these or similar before whilst you’re looking through your in-flight magazine, or if you’re lucky choosing an in-flight movie.

The bit I want to remind you of today, is the insistence that you must put your own oxygen mask on before helping anyone else.
This is sound advice for life too. We can’t help others if we’re not in a fit state ourselves. Whilst many of us are driven to help others in this world, we must remember look after ourselves before we are able to help others.
This will be different things to each of us. For me, it’s things like getting good sleep (a constant challenge with an overactive brain!), exercising regularly, having time outside and having pockets of restorative time on my own all of which help keep my energy levels balanced so I’m in a better condition to be able to give to others.
